The Storm Character nomogram is
displayed on the Severe Weather screen
The Storm Character nomogram graphically displays the correlation of CAPE (total) and Shear (0-4km, AGL) values. The example black dot represents the sounding's CAPE and Shear values. This is RAOB’s default Storm Character nomogram, which is commonly used among many U.S. severe weather interests. See video
The Precip Type nomogram
is
displayed on the
Winter Weather screen
The Precip Type nomogram graphically displays the correlation of the 1000-850 mb thickness (Y-axis) and the 850-700 mb thickness (X-axis). The example red dot represents the sounding’s thickness values (meters). This is RAOB’s default Precip Type nomogram, which is mostly used by weather interests in the mid-Atlantic U.S. region.
